Abstract

In September 2024, the level of expenditure inequality of West Sumatra residents as measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.287. This figure increased when compared to the March 2024 Gini Ratio which amounted to 0.283. Meanwhile, when compared to the March 2023 Gini Ratio (0.280), an increase of 0.007 points was recorded.
The Gini Ratio in urban areas in September 2024 was recorded at 0.313, an increase of 0.003 points compared to the March 2024 Gini Ratio of 0.310. Compared to the March 2023 Gini Ratio, it recorded an increase of 0.008 points where the March 2023 Gini Ratio was 0.305.
Meanwhile, the Gini Ratio in rural areas in September 2024 was recorded at 0.226, or a decrease of 0.002 points compared to the March 2024 figure of 0.228, and a decrease of 0.006 points against the March 2023 Gini Ratio which was recorded at 0.232.
In September 2024, the distribution of expenditure in the bottom 40 percent was 23.27 percent, meaning that the population's expenditure was at a low level of inequality.
Broken down by region, in urban areas the figure was recorded at 21.72 percent, while rural areas recorded a higher figure of 26.23 percent. This means that both urban and rural areas in West Sumatra fall into the low inequality category.
